Jason Pirga, MD, FACP, FMCP-M

INTERNAL MEDICINE, FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE

Dr. Jason Pirga was born and raised in Hawai‘i and carries forward his Native Hawaiian heritage as a physician committed to person-centered care. Board certified in Internal Medicine; he was honored in 2025 as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

Growing up neurodivergent gave Dr. Pirga a personal understanding of how brain health, emotional wellbeing, and physical performance are interconnected. These experiences inspired him to pursue medicine with a focus on treating the whole person rather than just the symptoms of disease. He earned his medical degree from the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa in 2009 and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego, later serving with the University of Hawai‘i.

Dr. Pirga began his career serving rural and indigenous communities, where he developed a strong commitment to culturally grounded and patient-centered care. After more than a decade in primary care, he sought new ways to uncover the root causes of illness and support long-term resilience. This led him to advanced training with the Institute for Functional Medicine, where he learned to integrate systems biology, nutrition, and lifestyle medicine with conventional Internal Medicine. His approach now supports patients by reducing inflammation, strengthening resilience, and optimizing both cognitive and physical health.

Today, Dr. Pirga’s expertise is especially valuable for retired professional athletes, who often face the lasting impact of high-performance careers. His functional medicine framework addresses chronic pain, brain health concerns, metabolic changes, and emotional stress, offering strategies that restore balance and promote healthy aging. Patients frequently commend his ability to listen with care, combine medical expertise with genuine compassion, and help them reclaim health while extending years of vitality.
